My mom use to never look at things before she threw them away. She was cleaning her room one day and had a trash back that she asked me to throw out witch I did without question. Several hours passed and she was in her room looking for something.
She came out and said she couldn’t find the SSI checks that came in the mail a few days before. So I asked her where she had them last and she said they were in her room. So I went in and helped her look once again. We look in every drawer purse and pockets she had. Then she said I hope I didn’t throw them away.
So I went out to the trash in that dark and looked through the bag I just threw out. Now going through trash in not something I would normally do. But this was a lot of money we were talking about. So I tore open the trash bag and my eyes focused on 4 yellow envelopes. I picked them out the trash and ran back inside.
As I handed mom the checks she hugged me very tightly and said thank you over and over again. The following morning went to the bank to deposit the checks. I will never forget the night. Not in a million years.
